JOB SUMMARY:
Performs patient care and/or other clinical duties within the scope of medical assistant training. Assists with clerical duties and tracking as assigned by the Unit Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Has completed and demonstrates competency and the required abilities on the Competency Summary Sheet and Unit Orientation Checklist.
- Prepares patients and assists the providers with examinations, working within the parameters of his/her preparation.
- Works and assists with patients according to approved HSI protocol.
- Is able to do all special medical procedures related to the unit, as indicated on the competency sheet. (Injections may be given under select circumstances, training, and certification.)
- Provides complete provider assistance, specialized treatments and patient referrals as assigned.
- Documents patient visits in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)/computer.
- Maintains confidentiality, and accurate documentation and reporting, including assigned logs and tracking.
- Provides patient education and assists other support personnel in patient education.
- Ensures an appropriate environment for the administration of healthcare by keeping exam areas and all equipment, in a clean, safe, and orderly fashion.
- Daily stocks and cleans assigned patient treatment rooms, nurses' station, and other assigned areas.
- Participates in team meetings, sharing ideas among team members.
- Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication.
- Assists in the orientation of new personnel and students, as requested.
- Ability to work extended hours (i.e., evenings and Saturdays) and rotates to other clinical sites as assigned by the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO), Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) and/or Unit Coordinator.
- Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures, with special attention to handwashing.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
SECONDARY JOB DUTIES
- Conveys accurate and unbiased translation of information to patients and/or their caregiver(s) who need assistance. This translation may include direct conversations or assistance with written documents.
- Facilitates communication between the patient and the medical staff.
- Keeps all information strictly confidential, based on current HIPAA regulations.
- Assist as needed with the registration and the processing of patients.
- Schedule appointments in EHR, print appointment schedule for clinical staff and call patients in advance for appointment notification
- Work collaboratively with the staff in scheduling these patient's appointments.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Completion of a medical assistant program with certification in giving injections.
- BCLS/CPR certification.
- One (1) year previous work experience in clinical setting preferred.
- Prefer some previous experience in the health care environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED:
- Demonstrated clinical competence.
- Assumes responsibility for continued education and job-related requirements.
- Professional conduct and dependable with timely attendance.
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively.
OSHA RATING: HIGH RISK
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, stoop, bend, speak, and listen, for limited to extended periods of time.
