JOB SUMMARY
Health Services, Inc. is seeking a professional and compassionate Patient Account Representative to serve as the face of our facility. In this role, you will perform a variety of clerical, receptionist, and financial duties. You will be responsible for welcoming patients, managing telephone communications, collecting and verifying insurance and financial data, processing payments (including pharmacy charges), and maintaining medical records. Your goal will be to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care from the moment a patient walks through our doors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Patient Registration & Reception: Greet patients warmly, show compassion, register individuals in a timely manner, and answer telephone calls promptly using a friendly, professional tone.
Financial Verification & Sliding Fees: Verify patient eligibility with third-party payers at every visit, screen self-paying patients for insurance eligibility, and collect required income documentation to process sliding fee discounts.
Payment Processing: Collect upfront fees, issue receipts, endorse and stamp all payment checks with the HSI deposit stamp, and note patient account numbers accurately.
Pharmacy Calculations: Calculate charges for medications from the HSI pharmacy using sliding fee scales, and identify Pfizer medications to collect the appropriate professional fees.
Scheduling & Communication: Manage appointments within the Enterprise Practice Management (EPM) system, print schedules for clinical staff, and make advance notification calls to patients.
Cash Handling & Reconciliation: Balance your cash drawer at the beginning and end of each workday, manage daily batch openings and closures, and perform CPT charge reconciliation at check-out.
Records & Administration: Secure patient data within the EPM system, maintain onsite medical charts (including filing, retrieval at provider request, and scanning), sort/distribute daily mail, and audit your work via system reports before submitting to a supervisor.
Flexibility: Travel to other HSI facilities as needed and perform additional duties assigned by leadership.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
High school graduate or equivalent.
Previous data entry experience is required.
Previous experience working in a medical office setting is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Technical Skills: Basic typing and data entry skills; knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
Communication: Strong English literacy (reading, writing, and speaking) with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Customer Service: A natural disposition for patience, warmth, cordiality, and professional etiquette when working with the public and individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Workflow & Autonomy: Ability to work independently with minimal instruction, distinguish normal procedures from exceptional circumstances, and function well in a stressful, fast-paced environment.
Detail-Oriented: Highly attentive to accuracy and correctness, especially regarding financial data and reporting.
Professionalism: Must be of good report, demonstrate strong personal initiative, and always act in the best interest of HSI.
